Engine: signature Porsche performance

Both the 718 Cayman and Boxster Style Edition model grades are powered by a mid-mounted 2.0-litre four-cylinder horizontally-opposed engine located behind the seats.

This 1,988 cc petrol engine uses a single turbocharger, intercooler, and VarioCam Plus (with variable valve timing and lift) to optimise combustion efficiency for strong performance across the entire engine-speed range.

Integrated dry-sump engine lubrication is used, allowing the engine to be fitted as low as possible, providing a lower centre of gravity for exceptional handling.

The twin-tract exhaust system terminates with central twin tailpipes finished in high-gloss Black, a colour feature specific to both Style Edition models.

Maximum power is rated at 220 kW (300 PS*) at 6,500 rpm with a peak torque of 380 Nm between 2,150 – 4,500 rpm.

Transmission: engaging gears

Both the 718 Cayman and Boxster Style Edition models are fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox.

A dual-mass flywheel is fitted to optimise drivetrain smoothness at all engine speeds.

A seven-speed Porsche PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung, German for ‘double coupling’) dual-clutch automatic transmission is available as an option. When not in Automatic mode, drivers can make manual gearshifts via steering wheel-mounted gearshift paddles (right paddle for upshifts, left paddle for downshifts) or by pushing and pulling the central gearshift lever (pull back to upshift; push forward to downshift.)

The optional 7-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with a mechanically locking rear differential is available as an option.

Like the entire Porsche 718 range, both 718 Style Edition models use a rear-wheel drive layout.

Chassis: engineered for maximum driving enjoyment

Porsche’s chassis engineers have imbued both the 718 Cayman and Boxster with exceptional steering and handling characteristics. Drivers can enjoy trademark-Porsche steering precision and cornering performance, maximising driving pleasure and confidence.

Both the front and rear axles in the 718 Cayman and Boxster use a light-weight spring strut design for optimal ride, control and comfort. Their compact design helps minimise their unsprung mass, delivering faster response and control as well as requiring less space.

The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) variable damper system with sports setup and 10 mm lower ride height is available as an option for both the 718 Cayman and Boxster Style Edition models.

Electromechanical direct steering with a variable steering ratio and steering pulse generator gives drivers engaging feedback when cornering, without sacrificing comfort.

Power Steering Plus, which reduces steering effort at lower speeds, is available as a no-cost option.

Electromechanical direct steering.

The Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system combines three control systems in both the 718 Cayman and Boxster Style Edition models:

  • Anti-lock braking (ABS)
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Traction Control (TC)

Brakes: Along with impressive agility, both the 718 Cayman and Boxster deliver sportscar stopping power.

-- Front brakes:

  • Four-piston Aluminium monobloc fixed brake calipers

-- Rear brakes:

  • Four-piston Aluminium monobloc fixed brake calipers

The dimensions of the wheels and tyres are:

*PS (Pferdestärke, German for horsepower) is the standard unit used in the European Union to measure the power output of a motor in ‘metric horsepower’

** The published consumption (l/100km and Wh/km), emissions (g/km) and kilometre (km) range figures are determined by Porsche AG testing in accordance with ADR 81/02 on test vehicles. Actual figures will vary as they are dependent on many factors, including without limitation: individual driving style, road and traffic conditions, environmental conditions, fuel quality, a vehicle’s or battery’s condition, load and use. Extra features and accessories (eg: equipment, wheels or tyres used etc.) can change relevant vehicle parameters such as weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics and can also affect the consumption, emission, range and performance values of a vehicle. CO₂ emissions can also be generated at the power source when vehicles are being recharged, unless 100% renewable energy is used. Generally, consumption, emissions, kilometre range and charging times will vary from the published figures in real world Australian driving and charging conditions.
